We have reviewed tons of skateboard trick tips products but have never come across one that is as useful as Secrets of Skateboarding. This 140+ page guide goes beyond ordinary trick tips and gives additional techniques and tips for rapid improvement at skateboarding.
The actual skateboard trick tips section breaks down each trick and gives clear and detailed step-by-step explanations. The troubleshooting section is the best we have come across because it gives solutions to practically everything that could possibly go wrong.
However, the real gold of the book are found in Section II: Secrets of Success. These chapters break down exactly what it takes to get good at skateboarding and gives secret techniques and methods to improve and learn new tricks at a rapid pace.
The only downside to this guide is that it’s only available online. This means you have to either read it on your computer or print it out. The advantage is that you can receive the guide immediately after you order. |
Although very entertaining, Tony Hawk’s Trick Tips Volume II: Essentials of Street, does a relatively poor job of actually teaching the tricks. The video features Tony Hawk and Eric Koston, one of the best street skaters. They add humor and comedy to this trick tips DVD, which make it fun to watch, but difficult to learn from.
The video does cover a variety of tricks, the video but lacks in detailed trick tips. Tony Hawk gives very vague explanations and does not go in depth in his trick tips. The thing that bugged us the most was that it does not do a good job of covering how to troubleshoot problems that will arise.
A strength of the video is that the tricks are shown in slow motion as Tony and Eric explain the skateboard trick tips, so you get a clear idea of what the actual tricks look like.
This video can be helpful for intermediate skaters, (those who can already kickflip, heelflip and do basic grinds and slides) and is not suitable for beginners.
Plus, many of the trick tips can be found on Youtube, so there's really no point in buying the DVD! |
Transworld's Show Me the Way DVD proves that the pro's are great skaters but terrible teachers. Every single trick is explained by a pro skater so the tricks are demonstrated flawlessly, but the explainations are poor.
What we liked about Show Me the Way is that it covers some neat tricks such as the 360 ollie or pole jam. However, the skaters only go over the very basics and how-to’s of each trick and does not go in depth enough to describe exactly what the skater should expect when learning the trick.
The trick tips are extremely vague and only a minimal aount of time is spent of each trick. Like the Tony Hawk trick tips, many of these skateboard trick tips can be found on the Transworld Skateboard website or Youtube so there's really no point in buying the DVD.
With that said, Transworld's Show Me the Way is a solid video to have for the intermediate skater who prefer to learn tricks from professional skaters. |
